Choosing a Sound Path Forward for Cybersecurity

Capital market stakeholders across the spectrum are as primed as ever to take action on cybersecurity, writes CAQ Executive Director Cindy Fornelli in this June 2017 commentary for CFO, and this rising cyber-awareness is necessary, given the urgency of confronting cybersecurity threats. In this context, Fornelli provides three key points on taking a sound approach to confronting cybersecurity challenges. In her view, such an approach (1) should be principles-based, (2) should leverage valuable cybersecurity efforts to date, and (3) should incent positive action. All three factors, she says, are evident in the cybersecurity risk management framework unveiled by the American Institute of CPAs in the spring of 2017.
