Mary Moore Hamrick Joins CAQ as Director of External Relations and Strategic Planning

~~Former PCAOB Official to Lead Center’s Outreach Efforts~~
Washington, D.C. – Former Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) official and experienced public policy strategist Mary Moore Hamrick has joined the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) as Director of External Relations and Strategic Planning.
Ms. Hamrick most recently served as Director of the Office of External Relations at the PCAOB, which is a private-sector, nonprofit corporation created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to oversee the auditors of public companies. In that capacity, she directed the Board’s government relations and public affairs functions.
CAQ Executive Director Cindy Fornelli said, “Mary Moore is a savvy and strategic public policy expert who will guide the CAQ’s communication and partnership with stakeholders interested in audit quality. Her wealth of experience, combined with a unique understanding of the public company auditing profession, will benefit us in countless ways as we work to serve investors and other capital market participants.”
Ms. Hamrick joined the PCAOB in July 2003 after nine years with New York Life Insurance Co., where she was Vice President, heading the company’s Washington, D.C. governmental affairs office. While with New York Life, she served a term as Chairman of the American Council of Life Insurers’ Federal Legislative Strategy Group. Previously, Ms. Hamrick was Counsel to the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce from 1990 to 1994, dealing with insurance and product safety issues, among others.
Ms. Hamrick was an investments representative with Morgan Stanley & Co. for three years. She began her career as an Account Executive with a sports marketing firm in Cleveland, Ohio. Ms. Hamrick received her bachelor’s degree cum laude from Duke University and her J.D. and MBA degrees from the University of North Carolina. She is admitted to practice law in North Carolina.
