Top practitioners from the public company auditing profession gathered with leading academics at the CAQ’s Eighth Annual Symposium on August 7, 2016 in New York. The event is a key part of the CAQ’s ongoing dialogue with the academic community on how research can help inform audit practice.


As in past years, the 2016 Symposium included panel discussions on critical issues. This year’s panels covered the following topics:


    

  • Innovative approaches to the development of talent in light of several megatrends that will impact the future workforce;
    • 

  • The challenges that auditors face in the assessment of internal controls over financial reporting, especially the precision of documentation around review controls; and
    • 

  • The benefits of taking a collaborative approach to research by integrating academic and professional expertise.
    • 



The panel on ICFR issues included two short vignettes that illustrate the types of conversation that occur when auditors are evaluating management review controls. These are available for use in training or in the classroom.
