"Profession in Focus” is a video series from the CAQ that aims to highlight critical issues facing the public company auditing profession and the markets. Hosted by CAQ Executive Director Cindy Fornelli, Profession in Focus features interviews with an array of thought leaders from the auditing profession, corporate governance world, investor community, the regulatory arena, academia, and other important constituencies with a connection to the financial reporting process.

A former Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Pitt shares thoughts on the state of audit quality, the need for better use of technology in financial reporting, and how securities regulators are keeping up with rapid changes in the marketplace.
 Berson June 21, 2016: Episode 25 of "Profession in Focus" features Wayne Berson, CEO of BDO USA and a member of the Center for Audit Quality's Governing Board. Berson provides views on talent in the auditing profession, the role of technology, growth of his firm, and the significance of BDO's charitable endeavors.
 PIF-Episode24 June 6, 2016:  Episode 24 of "Profession in Focus" features Brian T. Croteau, Deputy Chief Accountant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Among other topics, Croteau discusses the state of audit quality, implementation of new accounting standards, internal control over financial reporting, and his lessons learned in six years of public service.

May 2, 2016:  Episode 22 of "Profession in Focus" features Chris E. Hogan, Professor of Accounting at Michigan State University's Eli Broad College of Business. Hogan, who is also President of the American Accounting Association's Auditing Section, discusses developments in accounting careers, education, and research.
April 14, 2016:  Episode 21 of "Profession in Focus" features Anne Sheehan, Director of Corporate Governance at the California State Teachers' Retirement System. Sheehan discusses the importance of board diversity to investors, the desire of investors for a window into the activity of audit committees, and why effective disclosure is not just about reducing the quantity of what's disclosed.
March 16, 2016:  Episode 20 of "Profession in Focus" features Randy Fletchall, CPA. A retired EY partner and current President of the AICPA Foundation Board of Trustees, Fletchall discusses the "business imperative" of the ongoing work to foster greater diversity in the profession. He also touches on how the profession has worked to bolster the pipeline of accounting professors, as well as the importance of strengthening the rapport between the profession and the academic community.
March 2, 2016:  Episode 19 of "Profession in Focus" features Dan Sunderland, partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Sunderland, who serves as Deloitte’s National Leader of Audit and Assurance Services, discusses the state of auditing, the role of technology, and programs aimed at narrowing the gap between academics and practitioners.
February 17, 2016:  Episode 18 of "Profession in Focus" features Mark Cheffers, the CEO and founder of Audit Analytics. Cheffers provides thoughts on the "Audit Committee Transparency Barometer," a CAQ and Audit Analytics publication that tracks how U.S. audit committees approach the public communication of their financial reporting oversight activities. 
February 3, 2016:  Episode 17 of "Profession in Focus" features Jeanette M. Franzel, Board Member at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Franzel, one of two CPAs on the PCAOB, discusses priorities for the PCAOB, its engagement with audit committees, and its successful scholarship program for accounting students.

January 19, 2016:  Episode 16 of "Profession in Focus" features Jay D. Hanson, Board Member at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Hanson, first appointed to the PCAOB in 2011, discusses state of audit quality, internal control over financial reporting, and the PCAOB's 2016 priorities.
January 4, 2016: Episode 15 of "Profession in Focus" features Barry Melancon, President and CEO of the American Institute of CPAs. Melancon, a member of the CAQ's Governing Board, discusses the strong state of audit quality, the role of assurance in cybersecurity, and key questions for the profession regarding attracting the best and brightest. 
December 16, 2015: Episode 14 of "Profession in Focus" features PwC Chairman and Senior Partner Robert E. Moritz, a current member and former chair of the CAQ's Governing Board. In the interview, Moritz addresses cybersecurity, the role of the external auditor in that critical area, and how that role might expand. He also discusses why auditing makes a great career choice. 
December 7, 2015: Episode 13 of "Profession in Focus" features Jean M. Joy, CPA, Director of Professional Practice and Director of the Financial Institutions Group at Wolf & Company P.C. A policy expert, Joy shares insights on challenges and policy environment for mid-sized firms in the public company auditing profession. 
December 1, 2015: Episode 12 of "Profession in Focus" features Michael Leonardson, Partner at EY. Leonardson discusses the opportunities, challenges, and career implications of data analytics in the context of the financial statement audit.

Engelbert, the first female chief executive of a large, global accounting and advisory firm, sat down with Fornelli to share her views on leadership, the future of the auditing profession, and career advancement.
